There are nine boroughs that make up South East Wales and they are Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Monmouthshire, Newport, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Torfaen and the Vale of Glamorgan. All of the boroughs have plenty to offer the tourists to South East Wales, in what is probably the more commercially developed region in all of Wales.
There are some great contrasts to be seen in this area of Wales as traditional industries such as mining and steel making have left their mark on both the landscape and the people who live here. Cardiff is the capital city of Wales and is regarded as Europe's fastest growing city. Cardiff has a strong mix of cultures and has seen tremendous changes over the last 50 years, none more so than the bay area that now contains many chic restaurants, hotels and entertainment venues such as the Wales Millenium Centre.
As for places to visit and things to do, there is so much going on in this part of Wales all year round. Whether it's summer festivals, spring fairs, autumn scenery or even Christmas shopping, for days out you'll never be short of ideas. There's also plenty of activities to satisfy the most active of visitors whether it's world class downhill mountain biking at Cwmcarn or world class golfing at the Celtic Manor Resort, these are just a few of the excellent activities on offer in South East Wales.
