Pembrey Country Park
ByLocated a few miles from Llanelli, in Carmarthenshire. Pembrey Country Park is a great place to visit any day of the week. Even on a bank holiday when it’s very busy the park has so much space that it’s easy to find a spot to set up a picnic or play a ball game. With over 200 hectares of great parkland and one of the cleanest beaches in Wales, Pembrey Country Park has a lot to offer.
The video below shows just a little of the parks attractions as it can take a full day or more to see all of what the of the park offers.
Cefan Sidan beach is around 8 miles in length and has been awarded European Blue Flag status 15 of the past 18 years. The park was previously the site of a Royal Ordnance Factory that produced munitions during the Second World War, although the site had been involved in the production of explosives since 1881. Llanelli Borough Council acquired the site in 1977 and set about transforming the area with a large programme of land reclamation.
The transformation is truly remarkable and shows what can be acomplished with a bit of vision. The site is now one of Wales’ premier outdoor attractions with something for everyone, from lively to leisurely or even completely horizontal on the beach.
